TEAM TTO female sprinter Kelly-Ann Baptiste will make history by becoming this country’s first female flag-bearer at an Olympic Games when the opening ceremony of the July-23-August 8 Tokyo 2020 Games takes place at 7 a.m. (TT) time Friday.

ROWER Aisha Chow will be TT’s first athlete to feature at the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo, Japan. She begins the nation’s Olympic quest at 8:40pm on Thursday.

Lighting the Olympic cauldron formally marks the end of the torch relay and symbolises the continuity between the ancient and modern Games. At Tokyo 2020, it will also mark the Olympic Movement’s commitment to a more sustainable world: this will be the first time in Olympic history that the Olympic cauldron will be powered with hydrogen.

Tokyo 2020 organisers have announced the launch of the official mobile app for the Olympic and Paralympic Games, to mark a month to go until the Opening Ceremony.

The postponement of the Tokyo 2020 Olympics has, as expected, taken a heavy toll on the International Olympic Committee's (IOC) financial performance in 2020, with the Lausanne-based body reporting a deficit of $55 million (£40 million/€46.7 million) for the year.
